R-U-DoubleD
One day into the new regime and somehow the glow seems to have worn off along with my hangover. After a night of anarchy, order has been restored to Australia and it feels pretty much like the old order. Costello's decision not to take on leadership of the Liberals is probably the best decision he has made in ages: it didn't take a genius to figure out that he would be a scapegoat for all sorts of fallout from the election during the six-twelve months that it took for his opponents to jockey into position and push him out into the cold. The chaos he has created for the party, when considered in conjunction with his insubordinance during the campaign make me wonder if perhaps he really is a labour mole, given his background in young labour. Depsite the short-term turmoil he has created for the libs, I fear that there isn't really much reason to celebrate, with Turnbull emerging as the new contender for leadership of the libs. I'm deeply suspicious of Turnbull: unlike Costello, whom Keating so aptly referred to as 'all tip and no iceberg', Turnbull is highly unpredictable and dangerous IMHO.
